Hi guys, long time no see! I haven’t posted in about a month (I know, I know my apologies). All I can say is this month was adulting at its finest. Still trying to figure out how to balance working full-time and blogging, oh and throw moving into the mix. So yeah. But it’s all good because I’m finally settled into my new place and couldn’t be happier. A great neighborhood, 3 incredible roommates, AND cheap rent? Totally a God thing.
Okay now that we’re all caught up, today I wanted to talk about the infamous Shein online retail store. I’ve placed a few orders from Shein this past month and have been pleasantly surprised with how great everything turned out! I get a lot of questions about this site, specifically, Is it sketchy? Does it take forever to ship? Does the quality match the photo? You get the gist. So, to make your shopping experience a little less nerve-wracking, I’m going to show you my top 5 tips for shopping at Shein, as well as my top picks from the site. Let’s get right into it…
TIP 1: WATCH YOUTUBE HAUL VIDEOS
If you’ve browsed the Shein website, then you know they have a ton of clothes, which can be pretty overwhelming at times. So, the first thing I make sure to do is to watch “Shein Haul” YouTube videos. Literally, search Shein Clothing Haul on YouTube and tons of videos will populate of girls trying on and reviewing their purchases. This will really help you visualize the clothing and gain inspiration of what exactly you want to shop for. Plus, some of these girls do a wayyy better job at styling the pieces than the website itself, so it helps you find clothes you probably would’ve passed on just by looking at the model online. The best haul videos I’ve found so far are from Danielle Carolan and Chelsea Hernandez. They both film a ton of haul videos, so be sure to check out their channels first!
TIP 2: READ. THE. REVIEWS
Along with watching YouTube videos, one thing that really solidifies my decision to purchase an item is when I read the reviews. Try and look for reviews where people upload pictures of themselves wearing the clothes. This will help you confirm if the size, color, patterns, prints, etc, match what is being advertised. My personal rule of thumb is I won’t purchase anything that doesn’t have reviews, so if you want to save yourself from a catfish horror story, make sure you read them!
TIP 3: PAY ATTENTION TO SIZE
All Shein pieces are NOT created equal. Some tops are super soft and oversized, and some are super tight and require you to size up. Again, this is where the reviews come in handy. There is no greater love I feel when someone says, “I’m 130lbs, 5’5″, purchased a Medium and it fits perfectly!” Bless you, helpful reviewer for giving me a perfect frame of reference. However, not all items have helpful reviews, so get to know your measurements in centimeters or inches to ensure you’re making the best decision on what size to get.
TIP 4: BE AWARE OF THE QUALITY
If we’re being honest, Shein clothing is very inexpensive. While they have some great pieces that hold up pretty well, make sure you have realistic expectations of what you’re getting into. Think of it like Forever 21, where some clothes will only last a season and others will survive for years. My rule of thumb when it comes to taking care of “cheaper” clothing is to stay away from the dryer. Instead, hang dry your clothes to avoid shrinkage and preserve the fabric’s fibers!
TIP 5: STALK THEIR INSTAGRAM
The last thing I like to do before shopping at Shein is to stalk crap out of their Instagram account. Their feed and tagged photos are filled with real people styling their clothes, which gives you a better idea of what the clothes actually look like on a real human. Are you noticing a theme here? Moral of the story is, see before you buy!
MY TOP SHEIN PICKS
Now that you know the steps you should take before hitting that checkout button, here are a few of my favorite things that I’ve gotten from the site. These things might be kinda random, so check out the Bestsellers page and the Style Gallery to see their most popular items!
White Off-The-Shoulder Shirt // This is the one I’m wearing. Ordered a Small and it fits great! I wear it so much that I’m actually going to order another one just in case they decide to discontinue it.
Black Denim Skirt // I got this in a Medium. It’s super stretchy and easy to wear. Love it!
Lantern Sleeve Blouse // Ordered this in a Small, but switching it out for a Medium because the arms are pretty tight. This shirt has a super relaxed, beachy, boho vibe and would look great with layered necklaces and cut-offs!
Burgundy Criss Cross Bikini // I love this swimsuit! It’s only $13 for the set and the cut outs look really cute on. I got a Medium for reference.
Loose V-Neck Shirt // If you’re in need of new basics, then you need these shirts. They come in black, white, and gray, and can be worn on any occasion. They also have hundreds of reviews, a definite fan favorite.
Long post, but hope this was helpful! I definitely think Shein is worth the hype and you should absolutely try it out! One last thing, shipping can take anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks, so keep that in mind. If you still have any other questions about Shein let me know in the comments below, and I’ll do my best to answer them!
